US Army Light Artillery Officer's Sword

Artifacts and personal items

As a medical officer, Dr. Stevenson was entitled to wear a presentation sword. This particular model is US Army Model 1840 Medical Staff Sword. (Rear blade on stand)

Attributed to Capt. Dow, this slightly curved sabre is typical of the combat blades carried by officers of the Union Artillery. (front blade)

Original photos, letters, and even remains of shrapnel from cannon fire are also included in the display at Loyalist House.
