Presentation Sword of Dr. John F. Stevenson
US Army Light Artillery Officer's Sword
Artifacts and personal items
As a medical officer, Dr. Stevenson was entitled to wear a presentation sword. This particular model is US Army Model 1840 Medical Staff Sword. (Rear blade on stand)
Attributed to Capt. Dow, this slightly curved sabre is typical of the combat blades carried by officers of the Union Artillery. (front blade)
Original photos, letters, and even remains of shrapnel from cannon fire are also included in the display at Loyalist House.

Located in the heart of Saint John, New Brunswick, this historic 1817 Georgian home provides the perfect period-correct backdrop for our permanent Civil War collection.
Exhibit Hours
Open seasonal hours from June through September, and by special appointment for school groups and educators throughout the year.
Admission
Access to the 20th Maine exhibit is included with standard admission to the Loyalist House heritage site.
